Project Manager

Jemma Reid

I am delighted and excited to be the Project Manager for SSDA. I am very much looking forward to making this part of Scotland shine and make it a leading and first-class tourism destination.

Having been brought up in hospitality in the Scottish Borders I knew this was the industry for me.. I have worked my entire career in hospitality, events, tourism, travel, sales, and food & drink. My initial career began working for a DMC & Event Management Company in Edinburgh travelling the world and organising large international conferences, events, and incentive trips. I then worked across the UK in leading hotels and venues running their events and driving sales before moving back to Edinburgh, where I worked with Prestige Scotland as their National Sales Manager.

In 2010, following the arrival of my first son and moving back to the Borders,  I felt there was no better time to set up my own events and sales company. I have run many successful large and small events across the destination with a key food and drink theme. Until recently,  I grew and developed the Scottish Borders Food Network. Most of you will know me as Project Manager from MBTAG (Midlothian Borders Tourism Action Group). Initially, MBTAG was a 2-year project to maximise and drive the tourism potential in the destination on the back of the Borders Railway opening in 2015. To capitalise on the new developments and ultimately spread the impact as wide as possible, the project focused on the entire region and supported businesses to be tourism ready through a range of activities, events, training and providing essential tools. Through the enormous successes of this ‘Phase 1’, a second phase was created, which was to deliver consumer marketing under the separate brand and slogan 'Scotland Starts Here’ as well as extensive travel trade development. I have extensive knowledge and experience in project management, product development, business engagement and destination collaboration & innovation.

I have met and worked with so many of you already and I am absolutely thrilled to now be the Project Manage for SSDA. I look forward to driving this forward for the South of Scotland and meeting anyone I haven’t had the opportunity to yet.
