& Project Co-Ordinator
I’m delighted to be joining the SSDA at this exciting early stage as the new DMMO for the South of Scotland. Having recently completed Napier University’s award-winning Destination Leaders Programme, I believe this is a moment of substantial opportunity for the region and I am committed to the principal of holistic destination management as a means of delivering sustainable development.
Born in Hawick, my family developed the innovative Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping near Denholm, so visitors can now also enjoy the extraordinary, beautiful landscape that I grew up in. I went on to study Textile Design at the Glasgow School of Art, and travel the world at every opportunity, eventually working as a Travel Expert for STA Travel, beginning my career in travel and tourism. As Local Sales Account Manager for Radical Travel Group, the pioneering small group tour operator behind the now long-established HAGGiS Adventures and Highland Explorer Tours, I gained diverse experience of the tourism industry and community in Scotland over the past 4+ years.
During lockdown, I assisted by coordinating the Furlough Recovery Projects Initiative, matching industry leaders as mentors to small teams of furloughed tourism professionals in order to quickly harness skills and encourage collaboration that would find innovative and practical solutions to support collective recovery from the impacts of Covid-19. I believe tourism has a critical role to play in shaping the recovery and future economic and environmental health of the South of Scotland and it’s communities and I’m excited to have the opportunity to play a part in making this a success.
