Net Zero Support

Our Strategic Objective is to support businesses  to make tangible steps as part of the collective move towards net zero.

We will:

  • Engage with partner agencies to collate information about existing support, advice and information on offer.
  • Signpost to this support and only where there is both demonstrable needs and high confidence it is not duplicating others’ support, would the SSDA develop its own training and support.
  • Disseminate the SSDA/SOSE Net Zero Toolkit

We work in partnership with a number of key partners

  • SSDA members
  • VisitScotland
  • South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE)
  • Dumfries and Galloway Council
  • Scottish Borders Council
  • UNESCO Biosphere
  • Green Tourism
At the start of 2025, in partnership with South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) the South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA) and a talented team of students from the University of Edinburgh, work began on a sustainable business consultancy project. This formed part of the students’ academic curriculum and brought fresh energy and insight to the region’s sustainability ambitions.

Over the course of the project, the students developed a strategic framework aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the South of Scotland’s visitor and hospitality industries transition to Net Zero. While the initial focus was on the accommodation sector, the framework has the potential to expand into food and drink, as well as visitor experiences.

This practical, actionable toolkit is designed to empower businesses to act quickly, reduce costs, and make meaningful progress towards sustainability—fully aligned with the South of Scotland Responsible Tourism Strategy.
