Vanessa Wegstein
Though born in Germany, my experience in tourism and marketing is almost entirely around Scotland. It was here that I started my career, first in sales at small group tour operator Rabbie’s in Edinburgh, then gaining my MSc in Tourism Marketing at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Right after my studies, my career took me to the Scottish Borders and I have been working in and with the region ever since.
At Abbotsford I developed the new post of Digital Marketing Officer, and digital is my passion to this day. I joined Midlothian Borders Tourism Action Group in 2019, leading on the group’s ambitious digital plans, and coordinating everything from the social media presence to the successful launch of Scotland Starts Here.
I joined the SSDA to continue working on and developing the exciting stories of the South of Scotland and our shared brand Scotland Starts Here. It has been fantastic to engage people around the world in our stories, and most importantly to centre our local people, communities and businesses in every single one that we tell.
