Development Agent East
Iam a project manager with 28 years’ experience and a proven track record in tourism, regeneration, and event management. I arrived in the Scottish Borders in 2000, after ten years of event management in London, to run the Land of Creativity: a programme of events, trails and promotions to celebrate the Millennium, a successful project that went on to win the National Tourism’s Thistle Award.
Subsequently, I managed two LEADER funded projects: The New Ways Events Innovation Scheme, supporting local event organisers and communities; and Visit Tweed Valley, a project which developed the Tweed Valley brand and opportunities to become a world class activity centre. In addition, I also held marketing and events posts at the historic properties of Traquair House and Floors Castle.
Most recently, tourism projects have had an additional regeneration role: Made in Hawick, a tourism initiative celebrating and capitalising on the manufacturing calibre of Hawick; and Selkirk Means Business the first Business Improvement District for the Scottish Borders. Developing tourism campaigns, events and engaging with communities and businesses has shown how opportunities can be capitalised and progressed.
I very much look forward to working with SSDA and growing the huge tourism opportunities for the South of Scotland.
