SSDA Newsletter December 2022

MESSAGE FROM OUR INTERIM CEO

We would like to wish you a very Happy Christmas after what has been a busy year for us all!

The South of Scotland can look back on a busy year, and has much to look forward to in 2023. From major events and celebrations to new products and experiences, all eyes will be on Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders.

In 2022, it was such a great accolade to the South of Scotland to be named one of Lonely Planet’s Best Destinations for 2023, one of only 2 in the UK. And of course we saw 8 Thistle Award Winners, just demonstrating what a strong tourism offering we have in the region!

We’re also delighted to report that we’ve seen a great reaction to our promotional campaigns during the year. From our Curiosity Starts Here campaign, to our Year of Stories and Dark Skies campaigns, we reached 5.5m people on social media and almost doubled traffic to the Scotland Starts Here website, with over 460k visitors since January! This growth in engagement will help us drive visitor numbers to the region, so is something we will work hard to grow even further in 2023. We very much hope you’ll support our efforts to shine a light on our beautiful part of Scotland!

If you aren’t yet enjoying the benefits of membership, join today  and be a part of our upcoming activities.
